However, once I started doing more things like podcasts, I do think people were a little baffled about what to do with me.
As a tournament reporter, I was so behind the scenes and so low on the ladder that I did not feel that pressure. As for the rest of the community, I think it really was two or three years before I had people’s respect as someone who was always putting in the hours on the floor and cared about doing a good job. I would get great stories or tips of hands we missed or a suggestion to stick around because there is a maniac at the table. What would someone entering the WSOP media room today struggle to understand about the atmosphere, workload, access, and personalities of the press corps you joined?
A lot of players torch money because they are worried about being exploited by people who are not actually exploiting them. I wish him and all the final table players the joy and thrill of it that I was so fortunate to have. I have so many people genuinely rooting for me, whether they’re poker players or friends from home.
I’m truly touched by all the support I received, both online and live, especially after I made the final table. I really hope that it also attracts new interest and new players to the game because it’s just a fantastic sport to be involved in.
